To whom it may concern,
I used to ride the bluebell line as a child and our family have continued taking family and friends and I now find myself attending with my friend’s children. Those nippy spring afternoons spent riding the train with laughter and sandwiches are some of the fondest of my childhood and are the reason for my interest in trains and journeys.
I am a student in my third year of Visual Studies at Norwich University College of The Arts. Being from Brighton I have used the trains to commute regularly between University and home. I have always been fascinated by trains and journeys. Where they lead, why we take them, who they bring us to. And these journey, the people on them and the situations that arise have become a main influence to my creative practice. As well as a multitude of illustrations, photos and words, I have used journeys as the inspiration for musical scores. I create a grid using the wealth of information that flashes past my window, these marks are within a time signature and once completed I am able to transform these marks into music. An audio representation of a visual and physical journey.
I am writing to ask whether you would be interested in showcasing some of my work in your station, free of charge of course. I have always found waiting rooms to be rather fascinating, strange places only fleetingly passed through, very much their own little worlds. I think they would provide the perfect context for displaying work that reflects travel and journeying.
