Every body experiences life in a different way, I am interested in discovering new voices and new eyes.
Finding natural patterns within my environment and using them as structures for musical score.
Bringing to light hidden connections. Observing and creating.

To whom it may concern,

I am currently studying my 3rd and final year of Visual Studies  (BA) at Norwich University College of the Arts. I am fascinated by the connection between music and science, In particular looking at natural patterns and transferring them to a Musical Score. Creating compositions inspired directly from patterns and data taken from my environment and more recently, the body. Critical research such as the Neurologist Oliver Sacks, and the Gestalt Theory have been a great influence in the progression of my work.

I have been looking at Electro Cardiography, x-rays and ultra sound and their power to transcribe something internal into a physical pattern for me to work from.

I am writing to ask whether there is a way in which I could see these machines in operation? Or perhaps get readings from my own body? I understand that it must be an extremely hectic and busy schedule but the benefits this experience could have on my work are immense. I plan to show this work at my final degree show in May. The readings, the score and the recordings. Along with an installation allowing people to interact, create sound and understand a little more about the fascinating connection between Science and Music.

I hope you

I hope to hear back from you.

Yours Sincerely

To whom it may concern,

I am a student in my third year of Visual Studies at Norwich University College of The Arts.

Being from Brighton I have used the trains to commute regularly between University and home. I have always been fascinated by trains and journeys. Where they lead, why we take them, who they bring us to. And these journey, the people on them and the situations that arise have become a main influence to my creative practice. As well as a multitude of illustrations, photos and words, I have used journeys as the inspiration for musical scores. I create a grid using the wealth of information that flashes past my window, these marks are within a time signature and once completed I am able to transform these marks into music. An audio representation of a visual and physical journey.

I am writing to ask whether you would be interested in showcasing some of my work in your station, free of charge of course. I have always found waiting rooms to be rather fascinating, strange places only fleetingly passed through, very much their own little worlds. I think they would provide the perfect context for displaying work that reflects travel and journeying.

If you are interested and there is a possibility that you can accommodate my request then I would very much like to hear back from you,

Kind Regards

To whom it may concern,

I used to ride the bluebell line as a child and our family have continued taking family and friends and I now find myself attending with my friend’s children. Those nippy spring afternoons spent riding the train with laughter and sandwiches are some of the fondest of my childhood and are the reason for my interest in trains and journeys.

The colored lines represent the areas in between. The areas connecting named places. It is these states of limbo that I find so interesting. The way we interact with each other. Not allowed to stare or look, if you catch someones eye it is normal to look away. I like challenging myself. To draw people and not to look away but smile and carry on and to deal with the consequences. Sometimes they do not notice, sometimes they do but will ignored me fiercely and other times they want to see. These little interactions and experiences are what inspire my work.
